In Honor of Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day we decided to share quotes + poems, from ourselves and others, for those ladies who changed our diapers and our lives.

To My Mother
Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find, among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of “Mother,”
Therefore by that dear name I long have called you—
You who are more than mother unto me,
And fill my heart of hearts, where Death installed you
In setting my Virginia's spirit free.
My mother—my own mother, who died early,
Was but the mother of myself; but you
Are mother to the one I loved so dearly,
And thus are dearer than the mother I knew
By that infinity with which my wife
Was dearer to my soul than its soul-life.
-Edgar Allan Poe
Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.
-Robert Browning

You too, my mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor.
-Robert Louis Stevenson

All the countless spaghetti dinners, driving us to practice, seeing us through college, helping us with papers, helping us with kids, teaching us manners, teaching us morals, exemplifying those morals, tirelessly revising our papers, making stone soup to humor our imaginations, lending us counsel, putting every candle on our birthday cakes, attending our performances, taking out our splinters, inspiring us with your eloquence, your beauty, your fortitude and your unwavering faith. Hats off to you, Mama. No one compares.
-Christina Corcoran

My mother, she is softened at the edges -- and tempered with a spine of steel -- I want to grow old and be like her.
-Jodi Picoult
